  • Fresh Foam painting

    Fresh Foam

    Spray paint on aluminium composite 800 x 600 x 3mm .

‘Fresh foam’ takes direct inspiration from swimming in the North Sea at Seaburn in Sunderland Tyne and Wear. One of those mornings where the sea form fleeting facets of dark shapes in surrounded by foam. A subtle gradient of yellow through to pink and baby blue hints at colours from the sunrise peaking through the clouds caught in splashes created by the waves.

    Seminal Sea

    Spray paint on aluminium composite 800 x 600 x 3mm .

‘Seminal Sea’ is a landmark breakthrough in the development of my gradient reveal technique. It shows a boisterous sea catching hints of the morning sun in Roker, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.

  • Fleeting Facets

    Spray paint on aluminium composite 800 x 600 x 3mm .

‘Fleeting Facets’ takes this original series of gradient reveal paintings slightly deeper into abstraction. The elements of sea and sky are clearly still there yet the colours and movement are beginning to go a little wilder. (Look for ‘Double Drip, Morning in Crazy Town’ to see where this road leads.)

Abstract Expressionist Painting

Public Art/ Collectable Art

Public art and private abstraction… These are the two strands to my practice, one explores the outer experience, the other my inner experience. I paint large scale murals, researching local history. For years my focus has been in developing my freehand painting technique, looking to make things appear real. My abstract work is a much more personal expression. The two strands run parallel and serve to inform each other, in terms of colour theory and composition. I’m painting with spray paint but thinking like an oil painter, when it comes to tonal values, colour depth and warmth etc.
